Welcome to Moorlands Junior School

Moorlands Junior School is a community school for pupils between and 7 and 11 years of age. We are currently a three form entry school with  12 classes in mainstream. We also have a 10 place resourced provision which we call our Small Specialist Class; this accomodates children with Education Health Care Plans (EHCPs) for Complex Learning and Social Communication Difficulties. Places in this class are allocated by the Local Authority SENDIAS department.

We are extremely fortunate to have extensive school grounds and are especially proud of our MUGA (multi-use games arena), library bus, our treehouse activity space and our outdoor learning area which all enhance playtime, the school curriculum and improve access for sport activities and outdoor learning.

Our children are happy, well-behaved learners and we are often praised for this by visitors to the school or during visits into the community. In fact during a recent OFSTED inspection it was noted that: “Pupils take great pride in their work, which is always neat and well presented. They arrive at school properly equipped and looking very smart in the correct uniform. Behaviour around school and at playtime and lunchtime is exemplary. Pupils move around the building calmly and purposefully. They show good awareness of other people around them, and take care to hold doors open for each other.”

We have a strong and passionate pastoral team who provide support for our children's mental health and wellbeing, this includes access to an external play therapist, a Place To Be counsellor and two in-house ELSAs. We are also pleased to be part of the Trafford BELONG programme supporting a relational and trauma informed approach to education.

Music is a strength of our school; all children take part in a ten week instrument project in year 3 and alongside our award winning School Choir and School Recorder Group, children who play an instrumnet can join Music Makers, our school orchestra. We also facilitate peripatetic music tuition;  we currently offer piano, brass, woodwind, strings and recorders but with the support of Trafford Music Service can find tutors for most instruments.

We offer a wide range of after school activities some provided by external providers and some by school staff and we also have Munchkidz our newly established wrapround care which can meet the needs of most families.

As Headteacher, I am very proud of the achievements of all of our children whether academic, creative or sporting. Our aim is that every child that leaves Moorlands will have the confidence to stand up and speak in front of an audience; also that they  have self belief and know that they are good at something whether that be maths, art, drama, music or sports. I feel privileged to work with an excellent staff team who work tirelessly to support pupils, both in class and through our wide range of musical, sport, technological and creative arts extra-curricular activities to achieve this goal.

We highly value parental support and encourage communication between home and school, so that we work together in the best interest of our children. Our amazing PTA Friends Of Moorlands (FOM) also supports school with activities and fund raising events.

We hope our website has given you a peek into our Moorlands family; if you have any questions please contact the office and we will be delighted to answer them, or maybe come to one of our open mornings and have a tour around school, led by those who know school best, the children!
