We have today been notified that we have been awarded the PQSM Silver Award. We are very excited and thank Mrs Norbury for all her hard work with the application and are grateful to all our staff who bring science alive and plan exciting lessons for all our children.

The assessor was very complimentary and we also received this text from the PQSM National Director to use to promote the award.

Schools Awarded Primary Science Quality Mark

In May Primary Science Quality Awards have been awarded to 180 infant, junior, primary, middle and special schools to celebrate a commitment to excellence in science teaching and learning. So far, since its national launch in 2010, almost 2800 schools across the UK have achieved the award.

The Primary School Quality Mark scheme enables schools to work together to share good practice and is supported by professional development led by local experts. It encourages teacher autonomy and innovation while at the same time offering a clear framework for development in science subject leadership, teaching and learning.

The Primary Science Quality Mark is led by the University of Hertfordshire, School of Education in partnership with the Primary Science Teaching Trust. It is supported by the Royal Society for Chemistry, the Ogden Trust and the Association for Science Education.

Jane Turner, PSQM National Director said: “Gaining a Primary Science Quality Award is a significant achievement for a school. The profile and quality of science teaching and learning in each awarded school is very high. Children are engaging with great science both in and outside the classroom, developing positive attitudes towards science as well as secure science understanding and skills. Science subject leaders, their colleagues, head teachers, children, parents and governors should be very proud.”

The newly appointed Headteacher of Sale High School, Jayne O’Grady will be attending Moorlands on 21 March at 3.30 in order to meet parents of children joining SHS in September 2018 or those who are considering the school for their child.

Jayne will be on hand to answer any questions you have regarding results, performance and plans for the school. Charlotte Hulton, School Development Officer will be accompanying Jayne to deal with any specific transition queries or worries you or your child may have.

Our second science week has been a great success!
We have been learning about evolution and inheritance, changes of state, teeth and healthy eating and plants.
We've had great fun carrying out experiments and have learnt lots of new facts!
World Book Day was a huge success at Moorlands! We braved the snow and wind to dress up as our favourite characters and enjoy a full day of book related activities. all the staff joined in the fun, even our caretaker, Mr Smethurst, dressed up as Captain Hook for the day and the office was run by the likely combination of the Artful Dodger and Alice in Wonderland!
Our sports leaders had a fantastic time telling the year 2 children at Templemoor all about the wonderful sporting opportunities at Moorlands.
We had a fabulous morning springing into fitness on Saturday morning!
Thank you to Rebecca Broadbent, Kate Brunt and Clare Hinds for all their hard work.
There were a few aching bodies on Sunday morning but it was all worthwhile as the event raised £150!
Well done.
